Side effects isn’t just a bad movie about murder – it can also be a direct outcome from prescription drugs.

Today I feel like a beached whale in a too tight scuba suit, that just ate a bag of chips with a soda. The prednisone bloat – she’s a real bitch.

Side effects… the negative lil problems which occur when treatment goes beyond the desired effect, or problems that occur in addition to the desired therapeutic effect.

The dictionary even coins side effects as being a secondary and usually adverse effect (of a drug)…. Toxic side effects. Do you ever think about the laundry list of badness that can happen from some drugs? We were watching Hulu last night and a commercial came on about some new drug, while discussing the good there was a banner of badness at the bottom. This drug can cause…. Just about anything – death…

I was on 7 days of Prednisone – it seems to have kicked my lower respiratory infection, which my body wasn’t fighting; but at what cost…. Side effects I have experienced this week;

  • Swelling in ankles, knees, hips, digits and face.
  • Extreme lower back pain
  • Joint pain
  • Weight gain (upwards of 10 pounds)
  • Water bloat – to the point of being painful
  • Dizziness
  • Troubled breathing at rest
  • Dry mouth
  • Increased thirst and decreased urination
  • Fatigue

As I have said before, I do not medicate for my Lupus.

Why?

For the reasons above, I can handle a week of side effects like the above; but not a lifetime. Drugs can be dangerous and deadly, we are a society addicted to legal drugs – the quick fix. 60% of Americans take 1 or more prescription drug, 15% take 5 or more! Prescription drugs are the fourth leading cause of death in the country; causing 1.9m hospitalizations and 128,000 deaths – 840,000 hospitalized patients are given drugs that cause serious adverse reactions… side effects.

The FDA has found that adverse drug effects have doubled in the last decade!

I understand the need for the Controlled Fire. Controlled Fire (prescription drugs) = Rebirth (health).

Shouldn’t Controlled Fire be temporary? Permanent Controlled Fire = destruction of the woods. I use vitamins and nutrition to combat my Lupus, Asthma and basic health. There are studies linking nutrient depletion to prescription drugs. The Dept of Ag estimates that 90% of the population is deficient in at least 1 nutrient.

Before I found my amazing team of specialists, I had doctors who told me that I wouldn’t survive without the meds they were recommending. Most of them did not even recommend vitamins to help with deficiencies!

I’ve always chosen to take the natural way, giving my body the nutrients to be stronger and try to repair itself; only interjecting prescribed medical treatments when it becomes absolutely necessary. Drugs to me have always felt like they directly interfere with my biological outcomes and cause my already weak immune system to be weaker!

Be aware of what you put into your body.

Be OK saying NO.

Do your research.

Only you know how you feel in your skin, with the meds you are on – Be aware of yourself.
